Over time all types of patios will inevitably accumulate dirt, algae, grime and as a result will start to look discoloured, tired patchy and dull. Deep cleaning can really transform the surface and people often forget how their patio once looked!
A patio can significantly affect the curb appeal of your property. It's one of the first things visitors and potential buyers will see and when regularly cleaned the area is much more enjoyable and usable.
Patios are made from many different types of materials such as concrete, brick, flagstone, pavers, tile, granite, Indian sandstone, limestone and more. For this reason it's important the area is assessed so the correct equipment and pressure is used to safely clean the surface.
A common problem when patios are not maintained is lichen which is a type of fungus that grows with bacteria or algae. It looks like a rough, powdery stain on a driveway and the colour depends on where you live. Lichen colours include whites, tans, browns, greys, reds and greens. The spores find their way to small cracks and crevices and begin growing. Lichen is a main concern for homeowners and contrary to popular belief, they do not damage what they are growing on but can cause patios, drives, paths and steps to become slippery. This is a main concern for homeowners and even an industrial pressure washer may not be able to completely remove the spots. In this case we use a biocide treatment which consists of a sodium hypochlorite solution. This is basically industrial strength bleach with almost three to four times cleaning power compared to the household alternative.
We will always assess the surface and advise whether it is safe to use any form of chemicals.
